The race committee has taken a decision to impose a lifetime ban on Mr Mohammed Hajjam. This is effective for all future versions of the Germiston Classic, aka Carnival City Macsteel National Classic. As a result, amended results were updated on the accordingly on Racetec’s website as well as our own records.
He was classified in third place by the officials on the line. After confirmation from other riders in the group (Vets 50+ men), it was confirmed that he wasn’t part of the group competing for the prizes. After investigation and witness statements, we requested that his name and time is removed from the official timing results. The committee then agreed to impose the DQ for the 125Km VC race held on Sunday.
Taking a shortcut, for whatever reason, is acceptable; providing the competitor declares a DNF at the finish. This is done by either (1) not riding over the finish line, or (2) by advising the organiser and officials afterwards. The lifetime ban has been imposed because he claimed the prize money from the organiser, which we consider total unacceptable.
