All cycling events on are organised by Germiston Wheelers Cycling Club and the Rotary Club of Germiston.

Our event was originally organised by Germiston Wheelers in 1984, known then as The Star 100; it evolved into the Germiston Classic, and was held at the Germiston Licensing Department in Wadeville.

Germiston Rotary Club got involved in 1999, as the organisers of additional race marshals. Since then, the two clubs have worked together as equal partners in organising the event, with Germiston Wheelers providing technical know-how, and the Rotary club providing event management and organisational skills. Excellent collaboration exists between the race organisers and the various local authorities through which the event is run.

The main purpose of the event is to raise money for local charities. This includes support of:

  • Rotary Projects,
  • Rotary Foundation, and;
  • Development of amateur cycling in South Africa.

Through this event the organisers have been able make significant donations to many very needy charities, particularly in Ekurhuleni.
